Unlike other Associations, the Pintaloosa Association is based on colour in the first instance. The aim of this Association is to breed eye-catching colour on well conformed, nicely temperamented horses. Whilst the aim is for colour, it's not to be at the expense of conformation and temperament. A discerning breeder aims to use the very best horses they can afford.
Breed Standard
Horses and Ponies from 10hh to 18hh are accepted.
Conformation should meet the breed standard of the Registry they are registered with in the first instance, eg. Appaloosa, Pinto, Paint, Warmblood, Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred, Welsh, Connemara etc.
Approved Colour
No Grey horses
No Classic Roan
No Sabino
Progeny of one grey parent, to be used for breeding must produce a colour test to verify that they don't have a grey gene.
Black, Brown, Bay Chestnut all acceptable plus the dilutes carrying Cream, Dun, Pearl and Champagne. Please keep in mind though the most eye-catching colour comes from sharp contrasts.
Genetic Testing
It is encouraged that breeders will test their horses for genetic disorders appropriate to the breed they are using, before breeding them.
